General Law Enduring Guardianship
Enduring Guardianship
As we age and our health deteriorates difficult decisions often have to be made such as where we live and what nursing attention we require.
If you are living at home with a spouse, close relative or friend and are unable to make a decision as to what hostel or nursing home you should move to, then the person with whom you are living and who has the day to day care of you can make that decision for you.
If, however, you are living alone, the situation is different and the person who has the day to day care of you (district nurse, doctor, ACAT) has that responsibility unless you have already prepared an appointment of Enduring Guardianship giving a family member or a close friend the right to make that decision for you. Most of us would prefer to have a family member involved in our decision making.
