Criminal Law Apprehended Violence

Apprehended Violence Order

The Crimes Act enables an order to be made for the protection of a person. These orders are called Apprehended Violence Orders (AVO) or restraining orders, and can restrain the offender from certain activities towards the person or from approaching the person's residence or workplace.

To obtain an AVO you can approach the Police who will conduct the application for you. You can also approach a Chamber Magistrate for advice and filing the application for you which will then be heard in the Local Court. I can assist by appearing for you in Court when the application is heard.

If you are an alleged offender and have been served with an AVO application it will be necessary for you to attend the Court.  I can assist you by appearing for you in the Court if you wish to defend the application.
